Of course, there are plenty out there taking blind guesses at this stuff. It’s easy to pick the best-hitting team or look at what happened in the last game. However, we spent the time pouring through the analytics to make sure that we give you the best odds to stay in the green on these NRFI and YRFI props for October 7. MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – October 7

Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Guardians

First Pitch – 4:08 pm EST
Progressive Field – Cleveland, Ohio
Broadcast – TBS

In the first of two Monday games, Matthew Boyd will get his first playoff start this year against these Tigers’ bats. While the Tigers were decent down the stretch, they were quiet in game one of the series, scoring no runs and managing just four hits. That’s a good first sign for the NRFI. Additionally, Boyd has shown some positive signs in his eight starts this year. Only once did he allow more than two earned runs in a start, which kept his ERA to just 2.72. He’s also been six straight starts without allowing a first inning run.

In the bottom of the first, there isn’t much analysis needed. Tarik Skubal is set to receive the AL Cy Young Award when it gets announced at the end of the season and he gets the ball here. Cleveland jumped out to a big number last game, but sputtered when the Tigers brought in their actual starter (an opener preceded him). With the Guardians also being in the middle of the pack in terms of first inning runs, Skubal should cruise early here.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for October 7: No (-180)

Kansas City Royals vs. New York Yankees

First Pitch – 7:38 pm EST
Yankee Stadium – Bronx, New York
Broadcast – TBS

In the nightcap, Carlos Rodon toes the rubber first against the Royals. His 3.96 ERA might not instill confidence in the NRFI, but his September certainly does. In five starts during the month (28.2 innings), he posted a 2.20 ERA. He also struck out 34 batters in that period. With the Royals scoring just eight runs in three postseason games, I think he can keep this streak going.

In the bottom of the inning, we get Cole Ragans in his second start this October. The first one looked sensational – going 6.0 innings against a good hitting Orioles team and holding them scoreless in the process. The eight strikeouts was a nice cherry on top of it all. It may be nerve-wrecking to have an NRFI against the Yankees, but they were a touch worse at scoring in the first inning when at home. Plus, this is more of a play on Ragans than anything else.
