Viking Sports Weekly {October 7} – Cleveland State University
Volleyball
-Cleveland State will return to Woodling Gymnasium to begin a four-match homestand this weekend, hosting Green Bay on Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12.
-Last time out, the Vikings dropped a pair of matches at league-leading Wright State, and currently stand at 11-5 overall this year and 2-3 in league play.
-After finishing with 30 digs on the weekend, Emma Walker moved into fourth place in the CSU Career Record Book, finishing the series with 1,421 digs.
Men’s Soccer
-Cleveland State will take a break from league play to host Xavier on Tuesday, October 8, before hosting IU Indy on Saturday, October 12 for Alumni Day.
-Last time out, the Vikings dropped a 2-1 contest at Northern Kentucky, with Tom Mertz scoring his second goal of the year.
Women’s Soccer
-The Vikings will host a pair of Horizon League games this week, welcoming Robert Morris on Thursday, October 10 and Detroit Mercy on Sunday, October 13.
-Sunday’s game will mark Alumnae Day, welcoming back former Vikings to Krenzler Field.
Cross Country
-The Vikings will take the week off from competition, returning to action at the Falcon Invite on Friday, October 18.
-Last time out, Cleveland State participated at the Joe Piane Invitational, paced by Natalie Keller (18:17) and Ana Crangle (18:24) who both recorded sub 19-minute 5K times to rank in the top-10 in the CSU Career Record Book.
Swimming & Diving
-The Vikings will return to action with a split week, with the swimmers heading to Niagara on Friday, October 11 and the divers going to the Clarion Invitational on Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12.
-Last time out, the Vikings opened the season against Valparaiso, with the men picking up a 240-54 victory and the women earning a 238-54 win.
Men’s Golf
-Cleveland State continues its fall slate with the Red Flash Invitational on Monday, October 7 and Tuesday, October 8.
-The 36-hole tournament is hosted by Saint Francis, and features nine teams in the field.
-Last time out, the Vikings finished seventh as a team at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational.
Women’s Golf
-The Vikings will be back in action with the Bronco Fall Classic on Monday, October 7 and Tuesday, October 8.
-The 54-hole tournament will feature 11 teams and will be hosted by Western Michigan.
Women’s Tennis
-Cleveland State will take the week off from competition, returning to play at the Viking Invitational Friday, October 18 through Sunday, October 20.
-Last time out, the Vikings hosted the inaugural Horizon League Individual Championship, with Oihane Vicario and Sima Heren capturing the doubles title, while Vicario finished as the runner-up in the singles draw.
Men’s Tennis
-The Vikings will be back in action with the ITA Midwest Regional this week, with opening round play set for Thursday, October 10 in East Lansing, Mich.
-After the first two weeks of fall play, Lincoln Battle has a team-best 5-2 singles record, while Carl Gedlitschka and Nico Jamison both have three wins on the year.
Viking Of The Week
Natalie Keller, Cross Country
Paced the Vikings at the Joe Piane Invitational, posting a 5K time of 18:17 which topped her career-best by one minute and ranks fourth in the CSU Record Book.
