Georgia travel alert ahead of Hurricane Milton

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – As Hurricane Milton makes its way towards Florida’s gulf coast many Floridians are bracing for what could be a historic storm.

As Hurricane Milton upgrades to a Category 5, at least 51 counties in Florida are under a state of emergency.

According to the Georgia Department of Economic Development, a travel alert has been issued ahead of the storm.

This alert aids evacuees who plan to find refuge in Georgia in the coming days.

The Georgia Department of Transportation advises Florida evacuees to call ahead if you are seeking resources in South Georgia as many are limited following Helene.

GDOT welcomes evacuees to seek refuge in Albany, Columbus, Macon, and Atlanta.

As many make their way out of the storm some Georgia State parks are also open to RV’s and campers.
