Fashion designer Barrie Blue’s NYC ‘boathouse’ asks $2.4M

Come sail away — to Chelsea.

There, the under-the-radar fashion designer and writer Barrie Blue — aka Barrie Denn — has listed his “boathouse” at 217 W. 14th St. for $1.25 million. Blue also owns the adjacent one-bedroom apartment, which is on the market for $1.15 million. The homes can also be purchased together for $2.4 million.

The two-bedroom residence was designed with a sailboat theme in mind — think multiple portholes, a hand-painted “state room” mural and Art Deco stained-glass doors that open to a walk-in closet. To maximize space, the sleeping quarters are two loft spaces with skylights and a “captain’s room” that leads to a private garden. The kitchen even features vintage dials as handles.

Blue once worked as a stringer for the Herald Tribune in Paris and India, where he took up meditation, according to reports.

That’s where, around half a century ago, he also became inspired to create a line of “meditation clothing,” Kensington Blue, which was worn by George Harrison and Cat Stevens.

Blue went on to become a ghost designer, going behind the scenes for brands like Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger; he was also the former creative director of Coogi, the Australian clothing brand.

These days, Blue is consulting and working on projects, dividing his time between Florida and his home upstate — a 200-year-old former horse barn on 4.5 acres.
