The Long Wait for Red Dead Redemption on PC Is Nearly Over

In what feels a little like receiving a long-lost letter from the Pony Express, Rockstar Games has a nugget of good news for PC gamers: The original Red Dead Redemption will be released on Oct. 29. It’ll arrive 14 years after its original debut on game consoles, with visual enhancements such as 4K-resolution graphics and a bonus Undead Nightmare single-player zombie campaign.

Rockstar released Red Dead’s sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, on PC in 2019. It arrived with some technical problems, but it has endured and was made available on Steam late last year.

But this is the first time PC players will be able to play the original game, which tells the story of John Marston, a former outlaw trying to find his kidnapped wife and son. This version of the game, which includes the zombie campaign, is currently available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox.

In its post about the game, Rockstar says it will feature HDR10 support and 4K native resolution at up to 144Hz and support for ultrawide (21:9) and super ultrawide (32:9) monitors. No pricing information on the game was announced; Rockstar says it’ll offer preorder information for the Rockstar Store, Steam and Epic Game Store later this week. 

Both open-world western games in the franchise are highly regarded, with the first Red Dead receiving almost universally positive reviews. According to Steam’s page, this version will also include bonus material from the Game of the Year edition, but no multiplayer options.
