Of course, there are plenty out there taking blind guesses at this stuff. It’s easy to pick the best-hitting team or look at what happened in the last game. However, we spent the time pouring through the analytics to make sure that we give you the best odds to stay in the green on these NRFI and YRFI props for October 8. MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – October 8

Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Mets

First Pitch – 5:08 pm EST
Citi Field – Queens, New York
Broadcast – FS1

The first pitcher to toe the rubber on Tuesday will be Sean Manaea. Manaea failed to pick up the NRFI in his first playoff start against the Brewers, but the culprit was one swing of the bat. He looked good early on, allowing just two base runners in the first two innings and striking out two. However, the first of two Jackson Chourio blasts cost him the early lead. With the Phillies having just one total run in the first five innings of each game, I like Manaea’s chances to keep them quiet.

The bottom of the inning will see the playoff debut of Aaron Nola. While September wasn’t his best month, he did close out the season on a good note. He allowed just six earned runs in his last three starts of the year (3.00 ERA). In those 18.0 innings thrown, he struck out 23 batters. The Mets haven’t scored a first or second inning run all postseason, so I expect that the trend will continue with Nola on the bump.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for October 8: No (-145)

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres

First Pitch – 9:08 pm EST
Yankee Stadium – Bronx, New York
Broadcast – TBS

Michael King gets the ball to start the nightcap. He looked sensational in his lone start this postseason against the Braves. He went 7.0 innings and held Atlanta scoreless. The Dodgers are obviously a much better hitting team, but even they didn’t look so hot in game two. They managed just two runs on five hits and they made a load of weak contact. King should be able to keep them in check early and get the NRFI started right.

Walker Buehler’s surface stats aren’t one that inspires confidence in an NRFI. He carries a 5.38 ERA into the postseason and spent a bunch of time away with injuries. With that being said, his last start was really promising. He went 5.0 innings and was scoreless through the first four of those. He did allow a run on a ground ball in the fifth, but was ultimately quite good. The best part is that the game in question was against this San Diego squad. I’m not sure he’ll be that good again, but he should be good enough for our purposes.
