Fashion Brand Faherty Heads to the Jersey Shore | Hospitality Design

Los Angeles-based fashion brand Faherty has grown its brick-and-mortar presence with Sun & Waves, an all-day kitchen and retail shop in Spring Lake, New Jersey.

New York-based BHDM Design transformed a 4,000-square-foot former bank into a cozy café that echoes the clothing company’s coastal, surf culture-influenced aesthetic.

Rooted in the founders’ hometown, the space draws on Faherty’s ethos of positive energy and nostalgia, offering signature apparel alongside breakfast, lunch, and dinner made with locally sourced ingredients.

White shiplap walls and flooring create an airy atmosphere, emphasized by natural light that shines in through the storefront’s large windows. Driftwood and surfboards, including some tucked above the ceiling’s beams, are paired with patterned furniture rendered in muted blues, yellows, and reds.

Coastal greenery and plants are thoughtfully placed throughout the café, enhancing the warmth of the wood-paneled counter. The café’s wooden seating and tables, each featuring unique finishes and styles, also contribute to a homey, lived-in atmosphere.

Merchandise is seamlessly integrated into the design. Towels, for instance, are hung up casually to evoke the feeling that family and friends just returned from a day at the beach.
