Economics Joins Fierceness in Fifth on World Rankings

After his defeat of 2023 Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1T) winner Auguste Rodin  in the Irish Champion Stakes (G1) Sept. 14, Economics  joined the top 5 in the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings released Oct. 10.

Improving his rating from 121 to 123, Isa Salman Al Khalifa’s Economics entered a three-way tie for the fifth spot with Repole Stable’s Travers Stakes (G1) winner Fierceness  and Godolphin’s 2022 Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Rebel’s Romance , who is 4-for-5 this year with three group 1 victories.

Fierceness again led all American-based horses 3 years old and upwards that have raced between Jan. 1 and Oct. 6. With a rating of 121, recently retired Belmont Stakes (G1) and Haskell Stakes (G1) winner Dornoch   is in a seven-horse tie for 15th that includes Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1) and Metropolitan Handicap (G1) winner National Treasure   and Saudi Cup (G1) winner Senor Buscador .

Horses who received a 120 rating, the 22nd and final spot on the list, resulted in a 23-horse tie. Among those represented in this spot are Jaipur Stakes (G1T) winner Cogburn , Maker’s Mark Mile Stakes (G1T) winner Master of The Seas , Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Mystik Dan , Blue Grass Stakes (G1) winner Sierra Leone , and four-time grade 1 winner Thorpedo Anna .
