UNLV’s College Football Playoff hopes took a big hit last week as the Rebels fell in a Friday night road game against Power Four opponent Syracuse. The Rebels spent one week in the AP Top 25 — their first such ranking ever — before dropping out. That being said, everything is still in front of them. UNLV opened Mountain West Conference play with a 59-14 win against a really good Fresno State team. Now, it’s a big favorite on the road against Utah State, which is coming off a 62-30 loss against Boise State. The Aggies have now lost four straight games since their season-opening win against Robert Morris.

UAB at Army

Date: Saturday, Oct. 12 | Time: Noon
Location: Michie Stadium — West Point, New York
TV: CBS Sports Network [Channel finder
Live stream: CBSSports.com | Mobile: CBS Sports App (Free)
Spread: Army -24.5 | Will the Black Knights cover? Check out SportsLine’s Week 7 projections here

Those caissons are rolling along. Army has emerged as a legitimate College Football Playoff contender in its first season with the American Athletic Conference. The Black Knights just scored a season-high 49 points in a win against Tulsa and they still have yet to allow more than 14 points in a game this season. UAB provides Jeff Monken’s squad a prime opportunity to advance to 5-0 in AAC play. The Blazers are faltering under coach Trent Dilfer and hit a new low Oct. 5 with a 71-20 loss to Tulane. That was UAB’s fourth straight loss by double digits, as it’s being outscored by an average of 27.5 points against FBS opponents.

Spread: San Diego State -1 | Will the Aztecs cover? Check out SportsLine’s Week 7 projections here

This game is key for two teams trying to avoid the bottom of the Mountain West Conference. Two of their three combined wins have come against league opponents, but both San Diego State and Wyoming are below .500 on the year. Offensive struggles are a big reason why. The Aztecs rank 10th in the Mountain West in total offense (322 yards per game) and scoring (20.6 points per game), while the Cowboys are 12th — out of 12 teams — in total offense (242 ypg) and 11th in scoring (16.4 ppg). Be the under, if you feel so inclined.

Spread: Oregon State -4.5 | Will the Beavers cover? Check out SportsLine’s Week 7 projections here

This isn’t a Mountain West game, though Oregon State is, for all intents and purposes, playing a Mountain West Conference schedule. It will have to do for the Beavers, who won’t have a full conference home until 2026 after the Pac-12 was gutted, and then (partially) resurrected amid the latest round of realignment. Amid all the uncertainty, the Beavers have had a great season. Their only loss thus far came against an Oregon team that now ranks third in the nation. Otherwise, three of Oregon State’s four wins have come by at least 17 points. The Beavers are looking to keep things rolling against a Nevada team that has just one win since Aug. 31.

No. 17 Boise State at Hawaii

Date: Saturday, Oct. 12 | Time: 11 p.m. ET
Location: Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex — Honolulu, Hawaii
TV: CBS Sports Network [Channel finder
Live stream: CBSSports.com | Mobile: CBS Sports App (Free)
Spread: Boise State -21 | Will the Broncos cover? Check out SportsLine’s Week 7 projections here

Boise State is currently a heavy favorite to represent the Group of Five in the College Football Playoff. The Broncos also have a legitimate Heisman Trophy contender in running back Ashton Jeanty, who has 1,031 yards and 16 touchdowns rushing in just five games. He also has fewer than 100 carries on the year, and his rushing average — which currently sits at 10.9 yards per carry — ticks up any time he touches the ball. Boise State’s only loss this year did come on the road, but that was against No. 3 Oregon. Hawaii is still searching for its first win against an FBS team, though it is 2-1 at home. That one loss came by three points against power conference opponent UCLA
