Fashion flashback: Low rise jeans, micro bags, and other Y2K trends are back! – Lifestyle News

Y2K happened barely 25 years back, but it’s an era by today’s measure, and thus old enough to evoke nostalgia. Fashion trends that were all the rage in the early 2000s are making a comeback.

Here are five of them that the internet is hell bent on bringing back.

Low rise jeans

Election

Every time a celebrity like Bella Hadid or Kendall Jenner is spotted wearing low rise jeans, people on the internet comment on just how much they don’t want the trend to return. Not to intensify their fears, but the fashion style has already made a comeback these last few months. You can see hundreds of women sporting pants with low waists every time you scroll Instagram. Brands like Zara, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Gap have all come up with new lines for low rise jeans in every style possible, be it baggy jeans, slim fit, bootcut, flared, or cargo pants. Usually styled with crop tops, accessories, and a fair show of midriffs, the trend seems to be here to stay.

Micro bags

In 2019, Jacquemus launched the Mini Le Chiquito bag. No one has looked back since then. In the last few years, brands like Hermes, Celine, Bottega, and Prada, among others, have all brought out bags that are so tiny you could possibly not fit any of your necessities while stepping out. These are fashion products that have placed aesthetics and style much before even considering functionality on the part of the consumers. However, everyone from Hollywood celebrities to Bollywood actors to influencers have jumped aboard the mini and micro bags ship.

What is actually both noteworthy and ironic is that just as much of a storm has also been created by big bags.

Capris

Thanks to influencers and Hollywood celebrities, capri pants are back too. Interestingly, unlike the 2000s which did capris bad to the point that only Adam Sandler could carry them well, this time around, capri pants are being styled very elegantly. With brands like Zara, ASOS, Dion, and Mago bringing out new collections of capris, they’re fit to wear to work, for casual gatherings, or even for elevated or festive looks. In fact, in 2024, capri leggings have a revamped image too, with activewear brands taking the lead in newer ways to style them.

Baby tees & crop tops

Speaking of crop tops styled with low waisted pants, the former is another fashion trend that was all the rage back in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Now, baby tees, cropped tops, cropped hoodies, and even cropped shirts are back. If you need context in pop-culture terms, think films like Clueless (1995) or Mean Girls (2004). And more recently, TV shows like Euphoria have all had outfits that consisted cropped tops, baby tees, and graphic shirts.

Girly accessories

Even as 2024 has been the year when the sleeked back hair bun took the internet by a storm, following the throes of the “clean girl” trend, it’s also been the year when big girly hair accessories have returned to our phones and markets. Be it ribbons, bow scrunchies, organza scrunchies, clips, beads, scarves, hair bands,or big floral embellishments, all of it has made a comeback.
