Better Business Bureau shares tips against A.I. scam images

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Social media scrollers and technology users have another scam to be aware of.

With the enhanced development of artificial intelligence, scammers have been able to make it that much easier to fall victim to viruses and scams online. They use A.I. to create fake images, typically of animals or children for example in dire situations, to create an emotional response out of the consumer. These images are typically paired with a link encouraging you to click on it to help donate money or ask for personal information, thus leading to the stealing of personal information.

The Better Business Bureau warns consumers against clicking on links or viewing social media pages they are unfamiliar with; however, it also suggests a few key red flags that help identify if the image is real or not. They suggest looking out for blurs or flashes on the image, as well as uncharacteristic details, like extra fingers on a person, or repeated details in animals. The images also give off a glossy appearance.
