3 Cowboys Who Could Lose Their Jobs During Bye Week

The Dallas Cowboys are entering their Week 7 bye week on about the most sour note possible. The Cowboys were systematically ripped apart in Week 6 by the Detroit Lions, in every phase of the game. It was so brutal for the Cowboys that Lions backup offensive lineman Dan Skipper was lined up as a wide receiver at one point.

Seriously.

The Cowboys have a lot to evaluate as they enter the bye week, and while this team still obviously has ample time and opportunity to make moves in the NFC playoff chase, they are going to potentially need to consider some significant roster changes when they come back from the bye.

Which Cowboys players could be in legitimate danger of losing their jobs over the bye week?

Let’s start off with a little bit of a curveball, because it’s not just players that will be on the hot seat as the Cowboys continue to struggle. Dallas has been horrendous defensively this year in the first year of Mike Zimmer’s return to the team as defensive coordinator, which is pretty surprising considering how well this team has played for Dan Quinn over the last handful of years.

The Cowboys have the 30th-ranked total defense in the NFL this season and they are 30th in the red zone. They just gave up 47 points to the Detroit Lions and they gave up 44 points earlier this season to the New Orleans Saints.

Giving up 44-plus points in multiple games over the first six weeks of the season is not acceptable, regardless of the injuries the Cowboys have had to deal with. There’s too much invested on that side of the ball to be playing that poorly.

Zimmer will almost certainly make it through the bye week, but his name should at least be in consideration for being replaced given the way things have gone so far.
