Police probe shooting at Farmington Hills business

Police are investigating a shooting Tuesday at a Farmington Hills business.

A person called 911 that morning and told dispatchers he shot someone in the parking lot of Specialty Steel Treating Inc. at 31610 Eight Mile Rd., Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King said. There was also continued gunfire at the business, King said.

Officers arrived to the scene at approximately 8:05 a.m. and interviewed several people involved, including one person who admitted to police they were involved in the shooting.

Police identified another person after they arrived to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg, King said.

The injured person was receiving medical attention for the wound and listed in critical but stable condition, he said.

Investigators learned that an ongoing workplace dispute between two employees was what sparked the violence on Tuesday, King said. First responders remained on the scene for hours.

“I want to assure our community, at this time there is no danger to the public,” the police chief said. “All parties involved have been identified and the weapons involved have been seized.”

The incident follows other gun-related incidents in the Oakland County community.

The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office charged another Farmington Hills man in September for allegedly holding police at bay and firing a rifle at officers.

Also in Farmington Hills, a Detroit man was arraigned in August for allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend in Farmington Hills.
