49ers practice report: Wide receiver depth being tested by injuries

SANTA CLARA — The 49ers are dealing with multiple injuries including as they prepare for a visit from the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium.

Maybe the most striking issue for San Francisco is that both kickers on the 53-man roster did not practice on Wednesday due to injuries. Jake Moody still is not practicing due to a high ankle sprain, but was seen watching practice without any sort of brace on his ankle. Matthew Wright who suffered a separated shoulder in the 49ers’ 36-24 win over the Seahawks last week was not seen.

San Francisco’s third option at kicker, Anders Carlson, who was signed to the practice squad on Tuesday, was on the field practicing in their place.

There may not be a schedule set in place for Ricky Pearsall’s return to the playing field after only having his practice window opened on Monday, but the 49ers could need him. Deebo Samuel, was wearing a blue non-contact jersey during practice on Wednesday due to a wrist injury he suffered in San Francisco’sd Week 6 win in Seattle.

After catching a few passes from Brock Purdy during warmups, Samuel appeared to take a step back and simply watch the drills.

The wide receivers group was also without Jauan Jennings who suffered a hip injury during the game and sat out of practice. Both injuries to Samuel and Jennings were not known about during the game and were reported after the player’s three days off.

Here is the full injury report for Oct. 16:

The 49ers’ defensive line might also need a little backup to contain Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes on Sunday with Maliek Collins nursing a knee injury along with Jordan Elliott who missed the club’s Week 6 contest.

San Francisco could again call up rookie Evan Anderson for Sunday’s game as an option along with T.Y. McGill and Alex Barrett.

Not on the injury list, however, are George Kittle (ribs) and Fred Warner (ankle) who were dealing with injuries prior to the club’s visit to the Pacific Northwest which mens they did not exacerbate their injuries any further. Also on the practice field without any injury designations were Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (calf) and Charvarius Ward (knee) who are making their way back.
