JetBlue Will Now Let You Watch Movies with Other People on Your Flight

Long in the past are the days in which your fellow plane passengers felt like family while watching a movie. It was a communal experience—every screen playing the same show, and everybody listening via overheard speakers. That used to be a nostalgic memory. But now, JetBlue has come through with an in-flight entertainment update that is making us feel nostalgic.

Do not panic. We are not regressing to being all forced to watch the same in-flight movie at the same time (which definitely has its downsides). In a way, we will have the option to do so on JetBlue flights, though. The airline just announced a series of very personalized updates to its in-flight entertainment platform, and one of them involves being able to set up a watch party with friends and family on your flight.

It works exactly like it sounds. Regardless of where you are seated, you can watch a TV show or a movie at the same time as your friends and family, with up to six total passengers hooked up and synced in. When all screens are linked, passengers can control play and pause features, to ensure that nobody gets ahead if someone on the watch party needs to take a break.

If your flight lands before you get a chance to finish watching the movie, JetBlue has a solution for that, too. As part of its new entertainment features, dubbed Blueprint by JetBlue, passengers will now have the chance to pick up where they left off whether they’re connecting with a layover or even flying next month—as long as it’s another JetBlue flight, of course. In the same way, you can even save movies and TV shows on your profile, so that you can watch them on future flights as soon as you sit on your seat.

JetBlue has already started rolling out these new in-flight entertainment updates, and they’re expected to be completed by the end of May on all eligible JetBlue flights.
