Buc-ee’s hiring event set to impact Amarillo job market ahead of opening

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – With Buc-ee’s expected to open soon, the company is sparking the Amarillo job market with a mass hiring event this month.

Buc-ee’s is currently in the interview process to hire around 400 employees now, with training starting in November.

The new jobs will help the already bustling Amarillo job market as well as adding more fuel to the local economy by adding jobs and increasing tourism revenue.

“Buc-ees is going to be a great boom for the area, I mean several hundred new jobs in the Panhandle — great paying jobs by the way — also bring in a lot of tourism dollars, because people will divert their trip to come through the Texas Panhandle,” said Phillip Flores, business services representative.

There will be a three-day hiring event starting Oct. 22 where Buc-ee’s will interview close to 2,000 people looking to work at the new location.

The mass hiring event will take place from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. from Oct. 22-24 at the Amarillo Country Club, 4800 Bushland Blvd.

Flores says the local job market has been for well not only Amarillo but the Texas Panhandle.

“Strong job growth, we see strong employment growth. What‘s the unemployment rate? Because we have been flat for about the the past three to four years ever since we came down from COVID. We’ve hovered right around 3 to 3.5%,” said Flores.
