Bluefield business re-opens under new owners

BLUEFIELD, Va. (WVVA) – Thursday was the beginning of a new chapter for a Bluefield Virginia business that has served the area for over 60 years. The ribbon cutting with the new owners of Southern Gas and Oil company was held at their location at 2860 Virginia avenue in Bluefield, Virginia.

Jim and Matt Knowles bought the company in July and now they are open and offering gasoline and home heating oil to commercial and residential customers.

They also have a store with gas pumps on site.

Owner Jim Knowles said that when he and his brother saw the opportunity to keep a long-time business in Bluefield, they knew it was a great idea.

“We had a friend who told us that the former owner wanted to sell, and we looked at it as a business opportunity and plus being right here in Bluefield Virginia we wanted to keep it here. It was a very viable business, and we wanted to keep the tradition going,” Knowles said.

Their hours are Monday through Friday 6am till 6pm and 8 until 2pm on Saturdays
