Sullivan County tops state in new jobs – Mid Hudson News

ALBANY – Sullivan County had the largest number of new private sector jobs in the state during the 12-month period ending in September.

The State Labor Department said the county reflected a 6.0 percent increase in jobs with Allegany County coming in second with job growth of 4.6 percent.

In the Hudson Valley/Catskills region, Ulster County came in second with 1.5 percent job growth.

That was followed by Columbia County with 1.2 percent, the Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area with 1.1 percent growth, and the Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division with 0.4 percent growth.

Regionwide, the Hudson Valley private sector saw a 1.2 percent growth in jobs. That was 9,400 new positions bringing the 12-month period up to 822,300 jobs.

Employment gains were largest in private education and health services, at 10,200; other services, at 2,300; financial activities, at 1,300; leisure and hospitality, at 1,000; and manufacturing, at 200.

Job losses were greatest in mining, logging and construction, at 2,500, professional and business services, at 1,300; trade, transportation and utilities, at 1,200; and information, at 600.
