FOOTBALL

Kimberly 10, Appleton North 9

KIMBERLY – The Papermakers held off their rivals to clinch a share of the Fox Valley Association title.

Kimberly (7-1, 6-1 Fox Valley Association) tied for the top spot in the FVA with Kaukauna and Neenah.

Kimberly led 10-3 late in the fourth until Charlie Olson connected with Grant Hardy on a 47-yard touchdown pass in the final minute. North (5-4, 4-3) attempted the two-point conversion for the lead but the pass came up short.

Marcus Doucette, who was out with a broken collarbone for most of the season, saw his first action since Week 2 and finished with 91 yards on 15 carries and also had an 8-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

LUXEMBURG – Drew Kortz accounted for nearly 400 yards of offense in leading the Irish to the win over the Spartans.

Kortz completed 19 of 26 passes for 321 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 70 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries for Freedom.

Quinn Brennenstuhl and Parker Jochimsen led Freedom with 100 and 88 yards receiving, respectively.

Luxemburg-Casco was led by Brayden Loritz, who rushed for 86 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.

APPLETON – The Comets secured a playoff berth with the victory over the Hawks, keeping Xavier from an automatic playoff berth.

Xzaver Pittman caught a 6-yard touchdown pass and had a 43-yard touchdown run for Waupaca. Austin Adamczak had touchdown runs of 1 and 28 yards and added the touchdown pass to Pittman.

Waupaca also got a touchdown on defense when Owen Hansen scooped up a Xavier fumble and ran 83 yards for a touchdown.

Xavier’s touchdowns came on a 73-yard pass from Matthew Potter to Cole Hietpas and on a 19-yard pass from Potter to Jonah Gentry.

Waupaca finishes the regular season 4-3 in the Bay Conference and 4-5 overall. Xavier finishes 3-4 in the Bay and 5-4 overall.

WINNECONNE – Brody Schaffer had four touchdown runs to lead the Wolves to the victory and secure the outright Bay Conference championship.

Winneconne improves to 9-0 overall and 7-0 in the Bay, with Seymour dropping to 7-2, 5-2.

Schaffer scored on runs of 28, 11, 35 and 2 yards. Bryce Jones also had a 9-yard touchdown run for the Wolves.

Brady Poch, Wyatt Bunnell and Cayden Staffeldt had touchdown runs for the Thunder.

GIRLS TENNIS

WIAA State Tournament

MADISON – Several area girls tennis players have advanced to the state semifinals at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

Lexie Hankel of West De Pere advanced to the Division 1 singles semifinals, where she will play Clare Schaefer of Whitefish Bay at 9 a.m. Saturday in one semifinal match. Angela Wang of University School of Milwaukee will play McKenna Thorson of Verona in the other semifinal.

In Division 1 doubles, Ana Cristescu and Maria Cristescu of De Pere advanced to the semifinals and will play No. 1 seed Sarah Neubert and Isabella Heidenberger of Arrowhead in a 9:45 a.m. semifinal match.

Khali Stephens and Alexia Stephens of Bay Port also advanced and will play No. 2 seed Abby Frasher and Amelia Stuckslager of Divine Savior Holy Angels in the other semifinal.

In Division 2 doubles, Vivie Auth and Adel Schneider of St. Mary Catholic remained undefeated with a pair of victories Friday. They will play Maria Elizabeth Garcia and Akosua Yeboah of Columbus Catholic in the Division 2 doubles semifinals at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

North Eastern Conference Championship

GREEN BAY – Little Chute had the top three finishers in the girls race and finished with 27 points to win the conference title.

Ashley Wilson won the girls race with a time of 18:56.5, with Sami Miller and Lauren Wegand finishing in second and third, respectively.

Little Chute also took home the boys conference title, winning with 49 points, five better than runner-up Luxemburg-Casco.

Little Chute won by having its top five runners finish in the top 19 spots.

Owen Lencki of Waupaca took the boys individual title with a time of 16:14.4. Little Chute’s Hayden Carroll was second with a time of 16:41.3.
