Aggies win, Lakers travel to start postseason

The Des Lacs-Burlington football team made the trip southeast to take on the second ranked Aggies in Velva on Friday evening and enjoyed a first hand view of the big play capabilities of the Velva/Garrison/Drake-Anamoose football team as the hosts worked to a 56-6 win.

The Aggies used big plays passing and running, along with causing turnovers in the first quarter and built a 27-0 lead as the sun set over the trees in the west endzone. By the end of the third quarter, the home team added to the total for the 42-0 half time lead.

The teams tightened play in the third quarter and both teams scored in the first half of the fourth quarter to make the lead 48-6 for the Aggies. With only four minutes left in the game, Velva had added another score for the 56-6 final.

The game was the final on the regular season schedule for both the Lakers and the Aggies. Both teams will take part in the playoffs that start next week.

The region 3, #4 Lakers will face the region 4, #1 Killdeer Cowboys in Killdeer. The region 4, #4 Southern McLean football team will travel to the region 3, #1 Velva/Garrison/Drake-Anamoose Aggies in round one on Saturday, October 26, as the postseason begins for Class A football.

#1 Kindred 36, Oakes 0

The top ranked Class A football team from Kindred hosted Oakes in their final regular season contest. The home crowd witnessed offense as the Vikings posted plenty of scoring for the win.

The region 1, #1 Vikings will host region 2, #4 Carrington in the opening round of the Class A playoffs next Saturday, October 26.

#4 Central Cass 16, #5 Ellendale/Edgeley-Kulm 14

The number five team in Class A, Ellendale/Edgeley-Kulm made the trip to Central Cass, the number four team in the Class A and an evenly played defensive battle took place. The visiting Cardinals led 14-13 after the first half and held that lead over the Squirrels after three quarters of play. The home team rallied with a field goal with eight minutes to play to take the 16-14 lead. Central Cass then played defense to hold on to the win.

The region 1, #3 Ellendale/Edgeley-Kulm team will travel to play region 2, #2 Harvey-Wells County in the first round of the postseason. The region 1, #2 Central Cass team will host the region 2, #3 Bottineau Braves in round one on Saturday, October 26.

#3 Killdeer 42, Heart River 18

The third ranked Killdeer Cowboys hosted Heart River and cruised to the 42-18 win. The Cowboys will host the Lakers from Des Lacs-Burlington to open the postseason next Saturday, October 26.
