GIRLS TENNIS

WIAA State Championships

MADISON – Vivie Auth and Adel Schneider of St. Mary Catholic capped an undefeated season by winning the WIAA Division 2 state championship in doubles at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on Saturday.

Auth and Schneider, who were the No. 1 seed, finish the season with a 31-0 record.

They beat Natalie Cooper and Lauren Loesl of Pacelli 6-0, 6-3 in the championship match.

Auth, a freshman, and Schneider, a junior, had advanced to the championship match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Maria Elizabeth Garcia and Akosua Yeboah of Columbus Catholic.

After receiving a bye in the first round, Auth and Schneider won four consecutive matches in straight sets on their way to the title.

Clare Schaefer of Whitefish Bay won the Division 1 singles title, beating McKenna Thorson of Verona 6-4, 6-2 in the championship match.

Lexie Hankel of West De Pere took third place in Division 1 singles, beating Angela Wang of University School of Milwaukee 6-0, 6-0 in the third-place match.

Schaefer beat Hankel 6-4, 6-4 in one semifinal match, while Thorson beat Wang 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 in the other semifinal.

Khali Stephens and Alexia Stephens of Bay Port took third place in Division 1 doubles. They beat Ana Cristescu and Maria Cristescu of De Pere 6-3, 6-2 in the third-place match.

Abby Frasher and Amelia Stuckslager of Divine Savior Holy Angels beat the Stephens duo 7-6 (4), 4-6, 10-6 in one semifinal, while Sarah Neubert and Isabella Heidenberger of Arrowhead beat the Cristescu sisters 6-7 (5), 6-2, 10-5 in the other semifinal.

Neubert and Heidenberger went on to win the doubles title, beating Frasher and Stuckslager 6-3, 2-6, 12-10 in the championship match.

Kylie Matz of Brookfield Academy won the Division 2 singles title with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Kate Fortney of Aquinas. Susanna Hundt of St. Joan Antida/Chesterton Academy beat Sasha Quandt of Lourdes Academy 6-2, 6-2 in the third-place match.

CROSS-COUNTRY

Bay Conference Championship

DE PERE – New London won the boys championship and Shawano brought home the girls team title.

New London finished with 48 points to beat West De Pere by six.

Logan Boehnlein of Seymour was the top boys individual with a time of 16:51.2. Chase Osborn of New London was second in 17:01.9.

The Shawano girls scored 36 points to easily outdistance West De Pere, which had 65.

Kate Schmoll of West De Pere was the individual winner in 20:11.8. Bailey Hendricks of Shawano was second in 20:33.2.

CEDAR GROVE – Kohler swept the team titles, with the boys scoring 30 points and the girls scoring 32.

Matthew Wilterdink of Oostburg won the boys race in 16:08.8.

Maggie Behler of Kohler won the girls race with a time of 18:41.8.
