‘All Abilities’ job fair held in Robertsdale
ROBERTSDALE, Ala. (WALA) – Nearly 90 teens from Baldwin County schools participated in the second annual All Abilities Job Fair Thursday in Robertsdale.
The event was open to 10th-12th grade students with special abilities and offered an opportunity for them to step into the workforce.
Organizers said participating businesses more than doubled from last year, up from eight to 17.
The event was hosted by the Baldwin County Public Schools, and students got a chance to apply for open positions, do job interviews and get feedback. All had to apply to attend and showed up dressed for success.
Whether the students land a job or not, they still take a lot away from this experience.
“We have mock interviews where they all have to experience an interview,” said Baldwin County Board of Education’s Leigh Anne McPherson, job fair organizer.
“We ask them questions and we grade them on that to help them get better. We have interview…or we have job applications. We help them online, so this just gives them an opportunity to be employed and provide that experience,” she said.
The participating employers are from across the county and ranged from the hospitality and service industry to retail and grocery stores.
