Yankees vs. Dodgers World Series schedule
From the Subway Series battles at Ebbets Field and old Yankee Stadium to the cross-country bouts in the late ‘70s that crowned Reggie Jackson as Mr. October (and more), the Yankees and Dodgers have perhaps Major League Baseball’s most prestigious interleague rivalry. Despite the two powerhouses consistently rolling out competitive clubs and tallying high payrolls in recent years though, the 1981 World Series has remained the last showdown between them for over four decades — 43 years to be precise.
The drought ends now.
Both the Yankees and Dodgers made the postseason, and both did so with the best records in their respective leagues. Led by standbys Aaron Judge, Gerrit Cole, Giancarlo Stanton, and newcomer Juan Soto, the Yanks endured some tense battles with the Royals and Guardians but ultimately finished their 2024 American League playoff schedule with a sterling 7-2 record to win their first pennant since 2009; this entire generation of Yanks is, of course, still seeking a championship (in fact, among their rostered, only Soto and Anthony Rizzo even have rings from elsewhere). The Dodgers, meanwhile, had more of a scare, down 2-1 in the best-of-five Division Series to the Padres before storming back to win consecutive shutouts to advance.
Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and company just finished officially ending dreams of a modern Subway Series rematch, eliminating the Mets at Dodger Stadium with a 10-4 triumph in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series. The Dodgers are one of the league’s premier teams and unlike the Yankees, they haven’t missed the playoffs since 2012. But they’ve had a ‘90s Braves-like quality to them in that “the big one” always almost eludes their grasp. They’ve suffered multiple World Series defeats, and the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign remains their only championship season since 1988, when Orel Hershiser dominated and Kirk Gibson turned himself into a folk hero.
So there’s a lot of star power and hunger for a World Series title on both sides in this, the 12th all-time Fall Classic between the Yankees and Dodgers. LA has the home-field advantage by virtue of the superior regular-season record (98-64 vs. 94-68). We can’t wait to watch these heavyweights clash!
The World Series schedule is now set, and start times are the only particulars that the league has yet to finalize. The most likely bet is 8:03pm ET since that’s when all the games began in the 2023 World Series. We’ll update this post when that is announced, but the dates are set.
