IN PICTURES: hospice fashion show raises thousands
The event, organised by Darlington-based influencer Claire Irons, featured volunteers modelling dozens of outfits, all of which had been donated to St Teresa’s Hospice charity shops.
Around 120 people attended St Augustine’s Parish Centre, in Darlington, for the sold-out show, which raised more than £3,000.
Carol Charlton, chair of trustees for St Teresa’s Hospice, said: “This has been an outstanding result for our hospice, and its entirely down to the dedication of our amazing volunteers, and Claire’s tireless efforts.
“We wanted to do something a bit different and a bit fun, and I was delighted when Claire offered to organise a fashion show.
“We’re overjoyed to have not only raised so much for the hospice, but also to have raised awareness of our amazing charity shops, which are so vital to the future of the hospice.
“Not only are charity shops helpful in a cost-of-living crisis, but it’s a green alternative to buying new. A significant amount of energy is used to make clothing, much of which ends up in landfills, so we’re proud to do our part to keep clothing in circulation for longer, while raising much-needed funds.”
A dozen volunteer models showcased their catwalk skills, while students from Carmel College Sixth Form gave their time to run front of house operations.
Money was raised through ticket sales, a raffle, and an exclusive sale of donated new and pre-owned designer items and jewellery held after the show.
Carol added: “We’re always in need of volunteers to help in our shops, so I hope this might have shown people that there are lots of creative ways you can get involved, and your help really makes a difference. If anyone is interested in joining us, even just a few hours a week, details are available on our website and in our shops.
“On a personal note, my husband and I are delighted – the outfits have all been stored at our house for the last few months, and now we’ve finally got our living room back!”
