Trenton Tigers state champions, New Town Eagles fourth

The 2024 NDHSAA 6-Man State Championship football games were held at Minot High’s Duane Carlson Stadium on Saturday, October 19, with the fifth place game taking place first between the fifth ranked Parshall/North Shore-Plaza Braves and the sixth ranked Warwick Warriors.

The third place contest was between the third ranked Center-Stanton Wildcats and the fourth ranked New Town Eagles. The title game was between the top ranked Trenton Tigers and the second ranked Drayton Bombers.

Trenton 76, Drayton 50

The title game between the Tigers and the Bombers lived up to 6-Man expectations. The Score with less than two minutes gone in the second quarter was 26-20 for Trenton. It did not start that way as Drayton scored on their first offensive series for the 6-0 lead in the first quarter. Within two minutes of the start of the game it was 6-6 on big plays by both teams.

The game was tied 20-20 with one minute to play in the first quarter as both teams evenly moved the ball and the second quarter would start with the even score.

The Tigers added additional scores in the third and fourth quarters for the eventual win over the Bombers and the state championship.

Center-Stanton 74,

New Town 52

The New Town Eagles fell behind early in the third place matchup to the Center-Stanton as the third ranked Wildcats led 18-0 at the end of the first quarter of play. By halftime both teams had scored to make the score 34-14 Wildcats going into the second half of play.

With less than one minute off the clock in the third quarter, the Eagles scored to cut into the lead and close the gap to 34-20 in the game. The gap widened less than one minute later as Center-Stanton added to the lead for a 42-20 score. By the end of the third quarter of play, the Wildcats had built a 50-34 lead going into the last quarter of the game.

New Town was able to keep chasing and narrowing the gap. Less than three minutes into the final quarter, Center-Stanton was up 56-40 and five minutes later the gap was 56-46 for the Wildcats. That was as close as the Eagles came to catching up.

Center-Stanton claimed third place while New Town picked up the fourth place trophy.

Parshall/North Shore-Plaza 64, Warwick 33

The fifth ranked Parshall/North-Shore Braves faced the sixth ranked Warwick Warriors and the outcome of the game followed the rankings of the teams going into the match.
