Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is here to show Samsung isn’t out of the game yet

Samsung has finally unveiled the much-awaited Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. Just as we were getting the impression that Samsung was getting left behind in the game, the South Korean firm revealed its thinnest and biggest foldable smartphone yet. It also features the best camera setup ever seen on a foldable Galaxy smartphone.

This foldable smartphone is more of a technological showcase for Samsung. It will allow the brand to showcase what it is capable of and that it can compete with super-thin and well-specced foldable smartphones from Chinese brands.

Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition brings top-notch specifications

The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition has the biggest screens ever on a foldable Galaxy phone. It is also Samsung’s lightest, widest, and thinnest foldable phone yet. It is just 10.6mm thin when it is folded and 4.9mm when it is unfolded. At 236g, it is 3g lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 6 despite featuring bigger screens and better cameras.

The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition has an 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x Infinity Flex Display with QXGA+ resolution, a 20:18 aspect ratio, and HDR10+. The phone has a 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x screen on the front. Thanks to the cover screen’s 21:9 aspect ratio, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition feels like a regular smartphone when closed.

Samsung has equipped the device with a 200MP primary rear camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, a 10MP telephoto camera (3x optical zoom), a 10MP selfie camera (external), and a 4MP selfie camera (internal). Its primary, ultrawide, and telephoto cameras are now similar to Samsung’s current-generation flagship phone, the Galaxy S24 Ultra. However, the Galaxy S24 Ultra still has a better super-telephoto camera.

The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition can record 4K 60fps videos using all its cameras (except the internal selfie camera) and 8K 30fps videos using its primary camera.

On the inside, Samsung’s limited-edition flagship foldable phone uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 For Galaxy chip. It has 16GB RAM and 512GB internal storage as standard. It runs Android 14-based One UI 6.1.1 out of the box and will get seven major Android OS updates.

The phone’s connectivity features include GPS, 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, UWB, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. Despite its bigger screens, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition still uses the same 4,400mAh battery found in the Galaxy Z Fold 6. It will be available in just one color: Black Shadow.

The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition will initially be available in South Korea. It will later head to China as the Samsung W25. Samsung hasn’t revealed if it will sell the device in other markets.
