Moncler Closes Shanghai Fashion Week with Large-Scale Immersive Show

Moncler concluded Shanghai Fashion Week with “The City of Genius,” a large-scale immersive show that brought together fashion, art, music, and design. Hosted in the 30,000-square-meter CSSC Pavilion, an expansive historic shipyard by the Huangpu River, the event attracted over 8,000 guests and was livestreamed to 57 million viewers worldwide.

Moncler Chairman and CEO, Remo Ruffini, described the event as a celebration of creativity and collaboration, stating, “The City of Genius is the ultimate expression that creativity thrives when boundaries dissolve, enabling different worlds and cultural backgrounds to inspire one another in a genuine act of co-creation.”

The event extended across 10 designer “neighborhoods,” each representing a unique collection and artistic vision. These guest designers were Rick Owens, Jil Sander, Edward Enninful, Hiroshi Fujiwara, Donald Glover, Palm Angels, Lulu Li, A$AP Rocky, Willow Smith, and Mercedes-Benz by Nigo.

The neighborhoods were distinct, each with its own theme. Edward Enninful’s showcased futuristic fashion for extreme climates, while Hiroshi Fujiwara’s minimalist space featured designs suspended above a reflective black liquid. Donald Glover’s “Gilga Farm” brought rural California to life with a bright, youthful collection. Lulu Li’s collection explored the intersection of AI and fashion. Mercedes-Benz by Nigo presented a visually striking collaboration blending modern design with 80s and 90s influences. Rick Owens extended the ideas of an intersection between fashion and minimalist, functional architecture that characterized his previous partnerships with Moncler.

The event’s unforgettable finale was a live performance by Henry Lau, who was joined by dancers and musicians in a dazzling display of sound and light. The show opened with a performance by Yue opera actress Chen Lijun, blending traditional Chinese opera with modern pop music.

Moncler Genius continues to bridge traditional and modern methods of creativity, connecting diverse cultural perspectives and global talents. The collections featured at The City of Genius will be launched throughout 2024 and 2025, starting with the Moncler x Lulu Li Project on October 24, 2024.
