Pixel 9a camera specs leak with 48MP main, ‘Add Me,’ and a camera bump

Google’s Pixel 9a is reportedly making a change in the camera department, moving from a 64MP primary camera down to a 48MP main sensor.

The Pixel 7a and Pixel 8a both have offered an upgrade 64MP camera sensor, beating out the adding 12MP sensor on older Pixel A-Series devices. That sensor is thought to be the Sony IMX787, and it seems Google is changing things up on the coming Pixel 9a.

Android Headlines reports that Pixel 9a will drop down to 48MP primary camera.

What that report doesn’t tell us is what the camera sensor being used is. It could be a new sensor, or a cropped version of the existing one. The Pixel Fold and Pixel 9 Pro Fold are also thought to use the same sensor as these devices, just cropped to 48MP. If the Pixel 9a is just using the same strategy as Google’s foldables, the camera probably won’t be noticeably impacted.

The report also brings out that Pixel 9a will have a 13MP selfie camera and the “Add Me” feature that launched on the rest of the Pixel 9 series. That feature allows users to take a photo of a group, hand off the device to someone else, and then be added to that same picture using AI processing.

Pixel 9a is expected to launch earlier in 2025, probably around March.

Recently, @OnLeaks corrected a previous report from Android Headlines (which featured information purchased from @OnLeaks) regarding Pixel 9a dimensions. The budget device was thought to measure 154 x 73 x 8.6mm, and is now said to be slightly bigger at 154.7 x 73.2 x 8.9mm, with a camera bump out to 9.4mm.
