Miners football earns fifth seed, first round bye in playoffs

The Miners football squad earned the fifth seed and a first-round bye in the playoffs, when the brackets were revealed Saturday. Park City will face Friday’s winner of Timpanogos and Bear River Nov. 1 at Dozier Field at 6 p.m. The team already defeated Timpanogos Aug. 23 at home, also ending their 2023 season in the playoff quarterfinals. The Miners are looking to make another deep playoff run and win their first state title in program history. The semifinals and finals of the playoffs will be held Nov. 14 and 15, and Nov. 21 at Utah’s Rice-Eccles Field. 

Miners Red hockey defeats Copper Hills Monday to remain undefeated

The Miners Red hockey squad defeated Copper Hills Monday on the road 10-0 to remain unbeaten (6-0). Park City came out strong, scoring five first-period goals. The team added three more goals in the second period and two in the third. Cooper Ford had a hat trick for the Miners Red. Park City will next take on South County, again on the road, next Monday at 7:30 p.m. South County is 2-1-2 this season, which will run through February. The Miners Red’s inner-program rivalry game with the Miners White team will be Nov. 27 at the Park City Ice Arena.

Miners girls volleyball takes down Tooele Monday

The Miners girls volleyball squad took down Tooele Monday on the road three sets to none. Park City won each set relatively comfortably, with the third set being the closest 25-21. The team is 20-7 heading into Tuesday’s regular-season finale and senior night game against Hillcrest. Hillcrest enters the game 19-8, with the game to decide the winner of the region. The playoff bracket will be revealed Wednesday morning, with first-round action beginning Saturday at home sites. 

Wasatch football makes the playoffs as 19 seed

The Wasatch football squad made the playoffs as a 19 seed, when the brackets were announced Saturday. Wasatch will take on Jordan on the road Friday at 6 p.m. Wasatch enters the Jordan game at 2-7, with Jordan being 6-4. If Wasatch wins, they will play Brighton again on the road Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. Brighton enters the playoffs 9-1, as the third seed. 

South Summit football blows out Providence Hall, earns playoff bye

The South Summit football squad blew out Providence Hall 58-0 on the road Friday in their regular-season finale. The win moved South Summit to 4-6, good enough to earn them the five seed in the playoffs and a first-round bye. South Summit will take on fourth-seeded Delta on the road Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. If South Summit wins, they’ll advance to the state semifinals Nov. 9 at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman. San Juan are the top seeds in the 2A bracket. 

North Summit football remains unbeaten, secures second seed in playoffs

The North Summit football squad defeated Duchesne 35-15 on the road Thursday to close out their regular season undefeated (10-0). The win also secured North Summit’s second seed in the playoffs, which are set to begin Friday. North Summit earned a bye with the seed, and will play the winner of North Sevier and Gunnison Valley Nov. 1 at home at 6 p.m. North Summit defeated both North Sevier and Gunnison Valley during the regular season. Beaver, whom North Summit defeated Sept. 27, is the top seed in the 1A bracket.
