Beloved South Bend bookstore sets big goal to stay in business

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – There is a local bookstore “haven” located in South Bend.

It’s called Brain Lair Books. If you haven’t been there, you’ve almost certainly heard about it.

But now, the business is at risk of closing despite its tremendous success over the years.

In a social media post, the bookstore says it needs to sell 5,682 books by Oct. 31 to raise $25,000 and keep its doors open. If it falls short of that goal, the store will be forced to close.

Kathy Burnette, founder and CEO of Brain Lair Books, joined us on WNDU 16 News Now at Noon to tell us why the store is facing hardships and what you can do to help it stay in business. You can learn much more by watching the video above.

You’re urged to visit the bookstore at 1005 Portage Avenue before the end of the month. You can also purchase books from the store online.
