Pell City 7-year-old earns trip to World Series

PELL CITY, Ala. (WBRC) – Caylacyn Sanford is getting ready for the trip of a lifetime. The 7-year-old softball player from Pell City, Alabama is competing in the finals of Major League Baseball’s Pitch, Hit & Run competition this weekend.

Caylacyn and her father, Derek, earned an all-expenses-paid trip to the World Series when Caylacyn qualified during the regional event at Truist Park in Atlanta. Believe it or not, she actually only started playing softball eight months ago.

“I like to hit, I like to throw, and I like to hit and run,” said Caylacyn.

MLB’s Pitch, Hit & Run competition measures participants skills in all three of those categories. After working her way through local, state, and regional events, Caylacyn is one of five finalists in the 7-8 softball group.

The finals will take place on Sunday, Oct. 27 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The trip also includes two tickets to Game 2 of the World Series on Saturday, Oct. 26.

“It‘s been really special to watch her grow. Especially since she’s only been playing softball for eight months. She’s been able to really excel and be a great coachable young lady,” said Derek Sanford.

And by the way, Caylacyn just finished off an undefeated season with her 8U Pell City Bat Attitude team. She says those teammates are a big reason why she loves playing softball.

“It’s just so fun because you get to play with your teammates and get outs together and pump each other up.”

Good luck, Caylacyn!
