Sherman Carter Barnhart hires Pitts Selby to lead business development

Jacqueline Pitts Selby is director of business development for Sherman Carter Barnhart Architects.

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Sherman Carter Barnhart Architects (SCB) has named Jacqueline Pitts Selby an associate principal and director of business development.

Shelby comes to SCB from the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, where she has been senior vice president of communications and marketing.

Founded in 1995, SCB is an interdisciplinary design practice with offices in Kentucky and Tennessee and a team of 60 professionals in architecture, interior design, structural engineering, landscape architecture and civil engineering. An energy efficient design leader, the firm has achieved significant success in Zero Energy initiatives.

In her new role as business development director and a member of the management team, Selby will help drive strategic growth via expertise in building partnerships and deep understanding of the region as the firm continues to expand its services.

Selby succeeds the retiring Newby Walters, the SCB’s business development and marketing director, who has been with the organization 41 years.

“Newby’s contributions have been instrumental in shaping our firm’s journey, and we are profoundly grateful for her decades of unwavering dedication and leadership. Her legacy will continue to inspire us as we move forward. Jacqueline’s arrival heralds an exciting new chapter for our firm,” said Mike Smith, principal at SCB. “Her imaginative approach, curiosity, and creativity, paired with her passion for nurturing lasting relationships, will be pivotal in forging connections with clients and partners. Together, we are embarking on the next chapter of our journey toward creating exceptional designs that change lives and inspire communities.”

During 10 years at the Kentucky Chamber, Selby oversaw strategic communications and marketing efforts for the chamber and the Kentucky Chamber Foundation. She also ran The Bottom Line, the first political news site in the U.S. started by a state chamber of commerce when it launched in 2014.

Selby has been recognized as one of the Top Women in Communications by Ragan Communications and PR Daily in 2023, 40 Under 40 by the American Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) in 2021 and was named among 2023’s Notable Women in Kentucky Politics and Government by the Kentucky Gazette.

Selby serves on the boards of United Way of Kentucky, Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky, and Jobs for Kentucky’s Graduates and is a 2020 graduate of Leadership Kentucky.
