Betting analysis: Oklahoma vs. Ole Miss gambling angles & picks
This weekend, Oklahoma football hits the road for a meeting with No. 18 Ole Miss. This game will draw the attention of several across the college football landscape, some diehards and some casual fans, but plenty are likely bettors looking for ways to approach this matchup.
Each week here on Sooners Illustrated, we breakdown the betting angles for every Oklahoma football outing. Here’s a look at the gambling aspects of this game between OU and Ole Miss.
Trends to consider: This season, Oklahoma is 3-4 against the spread. The Sooners have also failed to cover the number in their last four games against AP Poll ranked opponents. Meanwhile, Ole Miss is 5-2 agianst the spread on the season. The Rebels, though, are 1-2 against the number to this point in SEC play. Ole Miss was 4-0 in cover attempts during the non-conference slate, a notable pivot in recent weeks.
Game spread: Ole Miss favored by 20.5 points
Analysis- Ole Miss kicked off the season looking like the dominant team many were expecting. But much has been made about some narrow defeats in recent weeks. That said, it may not be known just how gassed Ole Miss likely was before finally reaching a bye week. The Rebels played seven-straight games before reaching their break, and despite losses in two of the last three outings, it’s very likely Ole Miss comes out refreshed following some needed rest. A revitalized Rebels squad is scary to think about, considering the amount of talent and motivation within the program. It’s very feasible that Ole Miss could come out and punch Oklahoma in the mouth, but the Sooners do have a defense that could stifle early momentum. If the OU offense at the very least finds a way to not make mistakes, there’s a possibility this matchup plays out closer than expected.
CK’s play- Oklahoma covers the 20.5-point spread
Confidence level- 6.2/10
Game total: Over/under 49 combined points scored
Analysis- While the Ole Miss offense exploded out of the gate to begin the year, things have calmed down a bit on that side of the ball. It’s on Lane Kiffin, Jaxson Dart and the Rebels to get back on track, but a tough test awaits. An offensive group that hasn’t been as dominant in recent week faces an Oklahoma defense that forces turnovers, is full of exotic looks and carries plenty of talent. The Sooners’ defensive unit is the heart and soul of this team, something that could easily by showcased and derail Ole Miss’ plans to light up the scoreboard. On the flip side, OU’s offense cannot score points. And a change at offensive coordinator makes things even more uncertain for the unit, given a short amount of time to adjust. The Sooners will face an Ole Miss defense that’s one of the better groups to this point in the season. The Rebels are one of the better scoring defenses nationally and will have their home crowd to help out. All things considered, this could be a situation where two quality defenses takeover the game.
CK’s play- Under 49 combined points scored
Confidence level- 6.5/10
