Lake Superior Community Partnership highlights vital role small businesses play in community

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – A new award and celebration aims to highlight the hard work of small businesses in Marquette County.

The Mather, Studio Dance Arts and Up North Lodge are being recognized for their contributions to Marquette County.

Lake Superior Community Partnership Small Business Support Specialist Lauren Rotundo says the opening of the West End Economic Hub partly inspired these awards. She explains the venue and catering for the awards ceremony will represent businesses the Greater Ishpeming Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce previously supported.

“We’re really spotlighting West End businesses with our venue being The Mather and having our caterers as Mama Russo’s, Midtown Bakery and Doozer’s all contributing,” Rotundo said. “The Small Business Celebration is really to celebrate businesses across Marquette County.”

Each business represents the east, west and south sides of Marquette County. Up North Lodge General Manager Jesie Melchiori says she couldn’t be more honored to represent the southern region of the county.

“We do take great pride in our community and supporting and giving back,” Melchiori said. “On top of offering a great meal for anybody and everybody.”

Rotundo says community members nominated these businesses. She explains the nominations are then reviewed based on dedication and impact to the Marquette County economy.

“Businesses like that being celebrated and highlighted throughout the night is really exciting for us to give them a podium,” Rotundo said.

The awards ceremony will be held at The Mather on November 1.
