Nick Nurse explains why Sixers had Joel Embiid, Paul George travel
Normally, when a player is dealing with an ailment and their team goes on the road, that player will stay behind and get some work done at their practice facility. That is not the current case for Philadelphia 76ers stars Joel Embiid and Paul George.
The Sixers have the two stars traveling on this current 2-game road trip despite Embiid managing his left knee issues and George dealing with a bone bruise in his left knee. There is a reason why the team decided to do so.
Coach Nick Nurse wants them to be with the team and wants them to continue preparing for a return.
“We’re trying to get them on the court, right?” Nurse told reporters before the Sixers fell to the Toronto Raptors on Friday. “So we got practice in Indiana. We did a shootaround today. We’re trying to ramp up a little bit so our team’s here. It’s our best chance to do that.”
Embiid and George have already been ruled out for Sunday’s road matchup with the Indiana Pacers, but it sounds like there is a chance they’ll make their season debuts on Wednesday when the Sixers return home to host the Detroit Pistons as long as they progress.
“Pretty good,” Nurse said when asked how the stars look. “I think they’re making progress.”
