Navy turned the ball over six times in its 51-14 loss to Notre Dame. To make it even more maddening, five of the turnovers were fumbles, and the majority of them were the result of unforced errors. Quarterback Blake Horvath lost two of the fumbles, one of them directly resulting in an Irish touchdown.
The pregame talk for this game was that the Midshipmen could make a strong case to be the Group of Five representative in the College Football Playoff. That dream now is on life support if not dead outright as it is almost impossible to get the committee back on your side after a loss like this. It might not be fair given the conference that the Midshipmen play in, but it’s the reality.
So now, the question turns to whether the Midshipmen can finish the regular season strongly and pray that the circumstances turn out favorable for them after all. That seems very unlikely though.
