New sports park opens to help metro children realize physical goals

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) – A new ice rink, basketball courts, arcade and more are set to help children across the Kansas City metro realize their sports goals.

The AdventHealth Sports Park opened on Saturday morning, Oct. 26, at Bluhawk in Overland Park, 16201 Shawnee Dr. This is the end of the first phase of construction for the 420,000-square-foot park.

Project leaders said an NHL-sized rink, 8 basketball courts and a 4,000 square-foot field will all be highlighted features of the park. The facility is expected to house TPH Academy to help children focus on both sports and education.

“Health for the community, physical and mental health, giving this outlet for kids to compete and make memories and dreams. It’s healthy for everyone and that’s the focus,” said Greg Jackson, general manager of AdventHealth Sports Park. ”A safe environment for kids to come play, get their exercise, continue to develop in their sports and exceed beyond here.”

Leaders also plan to develop the area around the facility and add a cafe, ar and a family entertainment center to house arcade games, bowling, laser tag and a sports simulator.
