Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is about to douse its fire for good but Nintendo has finally given players what they’ve been asking for by locking in a release date for the paid version. Going a route that most mobile games from major publishers should entertain, Nintendo impressed the Pocket Camp community when it announced that it was shutting down the app’s servers but was working on a system that would allow fans to keep playing. The solution was a reworked experience that includes everything users have come to love but without all the microtransactions.
Per a video posted to YouTube, Nintendo confirmed that Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete will hit iOS and Android devices on December 3.
Fans who want to make the transition will need to fork over $10 for this version of the app, which may seem expensive but it’s worth noting that the price will increase to $20 on January 31, 2025, so it’s recommended that interested players get a foot in the door early. Nintendo also revealed some additional information regarding what players can expect from this revised app and it all sounds promising.

Some Very Smart Changes
All of the changes made to Pocket Camp in the Complete edition are designed to facilitate offline play and ensure that aspects that may have been locked behind microtransactions are now available for no additional cost. Instead of other players coming to visit, users can now create Camper Cards which can be scanned and accessed in a new location called Whistle Pass. At this scenic point, players who have had their Camper Cards registered will visit and hang out to enjoy live guitar shows.
Additionally, players who perform well in seasonal events can unlock Complete Tickets which can be exchanged for limited-edition items they may have missed. Users who’d prefer to continue playing on an established save also have the option to transfer their data to Pocket Camp Complete to ensure they don’t have to start again. This does require a Nintendo Account but that’s a small price to pay to preserve a seven-year-old camp.

Preservation Is Important
Mobile gaming is often a victim of server shutdowns, more so than the AAA market because it’s a format that moves much faster. Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp has been around for seven years, so simply wiping out the save data of dedicated fans would have felt like a slap in the face to a community that’s made the game so popular. I think Nintendo made a very smart decision to offer an offline alternative and I hope other publishers follow suit when the time comes to terminate their always-online experiences.
