Job program looks to grow clean energy sector in Rockford
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Leaders say Rockford’s future looks bright as they roll out a program designed to create more jobs in the city’s clean energy sector.
The Clean Jobs Workforce Network Program, part of Illinois’ Climate and Equitable Jobs Act, connects underrepresented communities with career opportunities in clean energy industries like solar, wind and EV maintenance. Rockford is one of 13 “CEJA Workforce Hubs” across the state offering training for entry-level jobs in clean energy.
“We are tasked with, this year, trying to train and get employed 150 individuals,” said Marvin Hightower, CEO for Zion West Enterprise. “But we’re looking for the program to continue, even after that, because the market is certainly here for those that can get trained and get into the clean energy space.
Program partners include the Workforce Connection, Goodwill Northern Illinois, Zion West Enterprise and more.
