Erykah Badu made a grand entrance on the CFDA Fashion Awards red carpet in New York City on Monday. The four-time Grammy Award winner and style icon put her own spin on suiting with a dazzling headpiece to accessorize.
For the special occasion, Badu wore an oversized suit designed by Thom Browne, a designer with whom Badu has a longstanding relationship. The oversized black and white textural piece was juxtaposed by the ornate headpiece.

The headpiece featured a black scarf that draped around Badu’s face and a bevy of jewels in shades of blue, green, red and more hues contrasting with silver chains.
Beneath Badu’s chin was a coordinated statement necklace with flowing silver links and a bold green gem. The jewelry was made complete with a dazzling septum accessory.

Browne, the chairman of the CFDAs, spoke highly of Badu’s receipt of the Fashion Icon Award at the 2024 event. “Erykah Badu and fashion are synonymous in many ways,” he said.
“Erykah effortlessly exudes herself, her unique point of view, through the clothing she chooses to wear…and each look she dreams up is so individual and true to herself.”

“This honor is amazing, and I do not take it for granted. I’ve always had a love for taking bits and pieces of the things I am attracted to and creating something far more grand than the sum of those parts,” Badu said of the Fashion Icon Award honor. “From the music I made to the looks I put on, to the technology I’m developing, I’m always looking for innovative, exciting ways to be more expressive and connect with people — to be closer to nature.”
The 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards will take place at the American Museum of Natural History in New York on Oct. 28, with Cynthia Erivo hosting. Honorees at this year’s ceremony include Coach, Michael Kors, Annie Leibovitz and finally, Erykah Badu, who will receive the coveted Fashion Icon Award.
