Sometimes there’s just nothing better than a great basic, and at the moment, my mind is firmly on finding some excellent new tees. We’re (still!) in that sweet spot of weather in New York primed for wearing a coat or blazer with just a T-shirt underneath (which, honestly, is the making of some of my favorite outfits). It’s the layering equivalent of still being able to bare your ankles without being too cold, and it’s truly delightful.
Whether I’m tapping Instagram images to see who’s wearing what or chatting with my friends, there are a handful of go-to names that never fail to come up when it comes to elevated basics. So if you’re looking for a classic white crewneck to style under sweaters, or maybe a ’90s-inspired baby tee that’s perfect with wide-leg black pants, you’ve come to the right place. Here are eight of the fashion crowd’s favorite brands to shop when it comes to wear-on-repeat, stylish T-shirts.
Éterne
Éterne was founded by L.A. stylist Chloé Bartoli in 2020 when she took it upon herself to create her own perfect basics. Her range of luxe essentials ranges from silk skirts to cashmere sweaters, but it’s her simple tees that I’m always seeing pop up on everyone from Hailey Bieber to Kaia Gerber.
Reformation
It feels like Ref’s baby Muse tees get all the attention (not undeserved, because that’s one perfect ’90s-inspired tee). But it’s the slouchy Liam style that’s my personal favorite, as the neckline and sleeve length are both *perfect,* plus it’s super soft.
St. Agni
Nothing makes me happier than seeing amazing Antipodean brands making it in the Northern Hemisphere, and St. Agni is no exception. The Byron Bay–based label is a dream for anyone who loves a chill, minimalist wardrobe, with immaculate tees that pair perfectly with the brand’s low-key tailoring and extremely cool leather accessories.
Sold Out NYC
Honestly, an extremely fitting name for a brand in such hot demand. The likes of Shopbop and Revolve do their best to keep these quality tees in stock, but if you see your size, I wouldn’t leave it sitting in your cart for too long.
Still Here NY
Still Here is, at its roots, a denim brand, and its love of 100% cotton jeans seems to carry through to its 100% cotton tees. Yes, the classics are very good, but it’s this double-layer style that’s been getting all the buzz with my in-the-know friends.
James Pearse
Monikh Dale loves her James Perse T-shirts, and so do I. If you love her muted, tonal looks and subtle yet interesting color combos, James Perse’s rainbow of faded hues is going to make you particularly happy.
Leset
Leset is further proof that L.A. brands really know how to do a basic. The cotton-jersey styles are primed for weekend lounging and Erewhon smoothie pick-ups, but I also have my eye on the pointelle tees for a whole other vibe.
Agolde
Yes, another Los Angeles brand! I don’t make the rules! I’m here for the ribbed cotton long-sleeve tees (especially double-layered per the below styling care of Net-a-porter).
