Boviet Solar selects Greenville for their first U.S. plant, adds 900 jobs

A major economic announcement coming out of Greenville. Boviet Solar, a Vietnamese solar panel manufacturing company, will have its’ first U.S. based production plant in Pitt County.

Governor Roy Cooper came out to Greenville today, April 26 to make not only the biggest job announcement in North Carolina this year, but the biggest announcement in Pitt County history, with this bringing over 900 jobs to the area.

This empty parking lot will soon be filled with cars once Boviet Solar moves in. Located at 1135 Sugg Parkway, this building used to be a DENSO facility, an automotive manufacturing company but they moved out in March of last year.

“So that helped our chances tremendously for being able to attract this company to our community, because they’re able to get in and start production very quickly with that existing building,” says Uconda Dunn | VP of Business Development, Greenville ENC Alliance.

Not only will Boviet Solar bring 908 jobs to Pitt County, but it’ll also bring $294 million in new capital investments.

“A great stimulus to our local economy, and also provide living wages for citizens that are in very great need of that this day and time,” says Greenville City Manager, Michael Cowin.

Executives from Boviet Solar visited over 60 locations across nine states, but CEO Zhouchun Xie says Greenville was the obvious choice due to the utility infrastructure and workforce. Governor Cooper says this is another excellent step towards clean energy and a cleaner environment.

“Clean energy is the future of North Carolina, our country and our world,” says Governor Roy Cooper.

Companies know there is a lower cost of living here, but wide-open spaces, hard-working and friendly people. This will put money in the pockets of North Carolina families, and North Carolina small companies.

Now we don’t know yet exactly when the plant will be fully open and operational, but they are working hard on it. You should start to see some job applications by late summer/early fall this year.

This is the second major Vietnamese company to bring their business to North Carolina.
