New entertainment district partnership bridges Kansas City’s past and future

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Rock Island Bridge is on pace to open as planned this spring.

When it opens, the city‘s newest entertainment district will boast a new top-deck event space named American Royal Hall.

The newly announced name is part of a long-term partnership between developers and the American Royal.

The deal means the American Royal will host educational events, celebrations, and other events at the Rock Island Bridge.

The announcement comes as crews continue to make progress on the entertainment district. Developers say the project is about 85% complete.

Crews are working on a new levee, staircase, and ADA ramp that need to be in place before the bridge opens in a new short months.

Developers also announced that there are now signs up in Kansas City, Missouri, directing people to the Rock Island Bridge District.

On the other side of the state line, developers said Kansas City, Kansas, plans to add levee-top trails, a park, and additional trails to take people down to floating docks for kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding.

An exact opening date is expected to be announced early next year.
