Fashion show to benefit Algonac-Clay Historical Society set for Nov. 9

Woman’s Life Chapter 883’s Nov. 9 fashion show and lunch will benefit the Algonac-Clay Historical Society.

The event will take place at Little Camille’s by the Green, located at 4575 County Line Road in Casco Township. The doors will open at 11 a.m. and lunch will take place at noon. Woman’s Life Insurance Society will match a portion of the proceeds.

The fashion show will feature Suzanne’s Ladies Fashions of Port Huron. Suzanne’s Ladies Fashions, which is located at 325 Huron Ave. in Port Huron, has been in business for over 40 years, according to information on its website. It carries a variety of sizes and focuses on sourcing its clothes from within North America.

“Many of our models are local ladies; part of our Woman’s Life group,” organizer Paula Burgess said. “So much fun to see our friends modeling the clothes we might be able to purchase later.”

Lunch will be comprised of Traverse City chicken salad and a roll, with chocolate or carrot cake. Coffee, tea, pop and a cash bar will also be available.

Additionally, there will be a 50/50 drawing and raffle prizes will be available at the cost of $5 for six tickets.

Burgess said that the Algonac-Clay Historical Society has many needs for the funds raised from the event. She said the Community Museum needs many repairs and that the Maritime Museum currently is fundraising to replace the carpet in the meeting room.

The Maritime Museum fundraiser has a goal of $6,000, with 50% from its renovation fund and 50% from members, sponsors and friends of the historical society. Thirty-one boxes of carpet tiles are needed at the cost of $20 per tile or $250 per box.

“That room is used by outsider groups, like small parties,” Burgess said. “We are giving it a facelift.”

Burgess previously said the Algonac-Clay Historical Society has been hosting a fashion show in November for the past 10 years.

“Little Camille’s by the Green on County Line Road is a great venue can accommodate 150 people,” she noted.

Tickets cost $35 and can be purchased by calling 810-794-9641 or 810-278-4466 or emailing paulaburgess@comcast.net. They must be purchased in advance and will not be available at the door.

Woman’s Life Chapter 883 is a group of civic-minded, hardworking individuals serving the Algonac/Clay Township area, a description in the group’s Facebook group states. Meetings take place the first Tuesday of each month. For more information, email Burgess at paulaburgess@comcast.net or search for “Woman’s Life Chapter 883” on Facebook.
