National Charity League Del Norte Chapter fashion show channels Barbie’s message of empowerment
National Charity League Del Norte chapter is an iconic organization and at this year’s Fall Fashion Show hosted by the class of 2027, the young women chose an iconic brand to represent them – Barbie!
Held at the Hilton Torry Pines, La Jolla, guests were surrounded by pink balloons and famous Barbie décor themes bringing a Barbie Dream House vibe all around, a news release stated. The event kicked off with a special thanks from President, Dr. Preeti Sonni-Metha saying in the news release, “This is one of the most awaited events of the season and I’m so proud to kick it off.”
She then introduced the two moms who chaired the event, Stephanie Smith and Marianne Kiil. Smith and Kiil let the audience know that in addition to working to create such a wonderful show, the class also collected toys from generous donors, including a table full of Barbie dolls from Mattel toy company. The toys will be donated to San Diego’s local organization Bridge of Hope, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening families in the midst of transition.
Smith said of the young women, “today is about leadership and empowering our young girls who will be the leaders of the future.”
Then the DJ started spinning a Barbie-themed compilation of songs and 21 young women from the class of 2027 began floating down the runway in fashions donated by local clothing companies, including Pretty Please, Vuori, Finnia Fine Clothing, Nordstrom, BCBGMAXAZRIA, Whiskey and Leather, and Macy’s Fashion Valley.
Each young woman started the show dressed as a favorite Barbie character. They were doctors, businesswomen, scientists, politicians, athletes, movie stars and chefs; all giving a nod to the doll who continually inspires girls and women around the world to be anything they want to be, the news release stated.
The themes continued as each of the 11 scenes gave audiences a taste of the many faces of Barbie from on the go, to athlete, to cowgirl, winter fun, disco, and more. Moments celebrating Ken were scattered throughout the show as six young men entertained the audience sporting beach-themed clothes and some mojo dojo casa attire.
The show-stopping scene of the fashion show had these same young men escort the ladies on the runway in elegant evening attire. They glided down the runway in sequins, satins, and bedazzled gowns giving one more nod to Barbie who, like the young women of NCL, knows no limits.
