Augusta business goes up in flames on Sandbar Ferry Road

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – On Saturday, Richmond County crews responded to a structure fire at Gulf Coast Industrial on Sandbar Ferry Road.

Dispatch says the call for the fire came in at 4:01 p.m.

News 12 crews could see smoke in the air as of 4:02 p.m.

While on scene, a News 12 crew talked with an employee who was working when the fire happened.

According to the employee, a paint sprayer exploded, which caused another explosion due to chemicals in the air.

Officials on scene says no one was injured.

Also on scene was Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson, who said he was worried about the nearby woods and how dry it’s been since Hurricane Helene hit our area.

As of 4:40 p.m., the fire was contained to the building, according to firefighters.

According to Gulf Coast Industrial’s Facebook page, the building is a 52,000 square foot facility that is the only one of it’s kind to service the southeast.

Their industrial and coating solutions include fabricated steel, piping, tanks and fireproofing applications, according to their Facebook page.

Their Facebook page says the company serves the food and beverage, pulp and paper, power, government, industrial manufacturing, chemical, water, wastewater and steel fabrication industries.
