Aggie set to represent Texas in November’s Miss World America Pageant

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -In just a few weeks, Whiteney Dorcena will be representing Texas on the Miss World America pageant stage in Seattle, WA.

Dorcena is a Texas A&M graduate student at the Bush School of Government and Public Service studying International Affairs with a concentration in National Security and Diplomacy.

She said she entered the pageant world after being a victim of human trafficking.

“I was looking for an outlet, a source just to escape my reality and I saw an ad actually on Instagram, and that led me to pageantry,” explained Dorcena.

Dorcena said pageantry allowed her a platform to advocate for other survivors.

“It really, really gave me an outlet to really showcase that it is not your fault and just have an opportunity to speak about these events that occur everyday,” added Dorcena.

She said there are many elements to preparing for such a big pageant, like Miss World America.

“It’s the same as a sport ultimately,” said Dorcena. “You have to get your training, your workout, you have to get your public speaking, and the most important part, at least for what I joined, is the opportunity to really give back to your community and have an impact.”

Miss World America will be crowned Nov. 17.

The winner will represent the USA at the 72nd Miss World competition.
