SALEM — Salem senior Trenton McCoy outhit Struthers by himself.

McCoy tossed a two-hitter and went 4-for-4 at the plate to help the Quakers snap a four-game losing streak by topping Struthers, 10-0, in six innings Friday. He struck out eight and walked one.

McCoy led the 21-hit attack with Lance Bailey going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs and Carson Rhodes going 3-for-4 with two runs. Troy Gibson, Colin Riesen, Cyle Burt and Gavin Colbert each had two hits. Austin Chafin hit a double.

It didn’t take the Quakers long to get on the board. Leadoff hitter Carson Rhodes hit a slow grounder to third base and was safe at first. He stole second base and advance to third on the throw. He scored on Riesen’s sacrifice fly, but that was it as the Quakers left the bases loaded.

Salem improves to 6-7 and will play at Middlefield Cardinal on Saturday

Struthers –led by the defensive play of center fielder Grady Moore — drops to 3-12.

Michael Scavnicky took the loss, giving up eight earned runs on 17 hits and one walk in five innings.

Youngstown East 0

YOUNGSTOWN — Brady Carpenter had three hits and two RBIs as Lisbon knocked off Youngstown East 10-0 in five innings on Friday.

Ryan Carpenter added two hits including a double with two RBIs for the winners. Marc Moore had two hits.

Brady Carpenter got the win with nine strikeouts and three walks in five innings.

Wellsville

at Southern (DH)

SALINEVILLE — Mason Pitts had a single, two doubles and three RBIs in a Southern 13-1 win in four innings over Wellsville in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday.

Walker Tice added a double, while Brody Brown had a triple for the winners.

Pitts got the win on the mound as he limited Wellsville to one hit while striking out five and walking one.

Austin Watkins took the loss with no strikeouts and four walks in 1 2/3 innings.

In the second game, a critical error in the fourth inning helped Wellsville score enough to get a 2-1 five-inning win.

For Wellsville, Richie Dowling, Leland Monte and Cooper Frank had hits. Darnell Roe got the win as struck out five and walked three in five innings.

Mason Pitts had a double for the Indians, 4-6.

Frank Shagnot took the loss with three strikeouts and two walks in four innings.

United 10, Minerva 7

HANOVERTON — A five-run fifth allowed United to take control in a 10-7 win over Minerva on Friday.

Jason Pratt had two hits and two RBIs for the Tigers. Parker Newburn and Gage Smith had a hit and RBI each.

Quentin Taylor got the win in relief as he had two strikeouts and a walk in two innings.

United is 12-3 and will be at Columbiana on Monday.

Heartland 14, Jackson-Milton 6

UNITY — Jake Walker had three hits and four RBIs from the lead-off position as Heartland bested Jackson-Milton 14-6 on Friday.

Brett Walker added two hits and an RBI.

Paul Bender ha a single, double and three RBIs.

Will Morgan got the win with six strikeouts and four walks in seven innings.

Heartland is 6-8 and will host East on Monday.

Wheeling Park 11, East Liverpool 1

EAST LIVERPOOL — A seven-run fifth inning by Wheeling Park doomed East Liverpool to an 11-1 loss on Friday.

East Liverpool was held hitless by Park pitcher Nate Simon. Simon had five strikeouts and a walk.

Malachi Reed took the loss with two strikeouts and four walks.

East Liverpool is 8-9.

Weir 10, Beaver Local 6

WEIRTON, W.Va. — Weir High tamed Beaver Local 10-6 on Thursday.

Kristian Lantz and Aiden Dray each had a double and two RBIs for Beaver Local.

Braxton Hickman took the loss with three strikeouts and a walk in five innings.

Beaver Local is 5-9 and is at Bellaire on Saturday.

West Branch at Streetsboro

STREETSBORO — West Branch and Streetsboro were tied at 7 in the top of the ninth before the game was halted due to darkness on Friday.

Hunter Shields had three hits including a double and an RBI for the Warriors. Beau Alazaus had a single and double with an RBI. Anthony Perry had two doubles. Jaxson Robb had a double and two RBIs.

Frankfort 7, Oak Glen 6

NEW MANCHESTER, W. Va. — Oak Glen scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh but it wasn’t enough as Frankfort held off the Golden Bears 7-6 on Friday.

Preston Cole had a double for the Bears, 2-18. Christian Chappell had two hits and an RBI. Cole took the loss as well as he had a strikeout and no walks in two innings.

Oak Glen plays at Wellsville today.
