World of Warcraft’s New Zone Has Some History Stretching Back to Before the Fourth War
The Siren Isle is a mysterious island located in a storm-troubled area of the ocean, a feature that goes a long way to explaining the condition of its weathered landscape. It was an Azerite hotspot, and during the Fourth War, the Kul Tiras took advantage by mining this valuable resource. However, most of Siren Isle’s inhabitants mysteriously disappeared shortly after, and it eventually became an inactive location. This lines up with the signs of abandonment that are visible in most of the buildings and structures on the island.
Recently, a crystal of unknown origin at the heart of the island sent out an energy pulse, drawing the Earthen, Arathi, and goblins in to explore the secrets and treasures it holds, hence the name Siren Isle. The players’ allies also mount an expedition to the new area to join the fun and experience it in all its glory. As stated by Michael Esten, the World Designer, the island is inspired by the American Southwest with its highrising cliffs.
The Siren Isle Is Filled With Mystery And Loot
The Siren Isle is surmised to be a catchup zone for many players, granting them a quick way to gear up and upgrade their main characters, but endgame players are also encouraged to join in on the adventure. There are a lot of secrets waiting to be revealed, but also different weapons, armor, and even collectibles like new pets and mounts. While the island might feature some similar content from the past, it still has its fair share of new activities, and the first day on the Public Test Realm had positive returns, entertaining players with multiple events happening simultaneously.
Although, at first glance, the island’s relatively small size would hint that there wouldn’t be many new things to witness, a bunch of easter eggs lie hidden. In the same vein, a host of enemies await adventurous players in the mysterious island. The Bloodwake Vryku, the Naga, and several pirate crews form the three main groups of hostiles players have to overcome. These enemy factions are spread out across the landscape so that they don’t appear too frequently in a playthrough, with the developers aiming to keep the experience fresh and varied.
Beyond the enemy factions, there’s also the looming threat of weather elements. Whenever a great storm brews, monsters pop out of the ocean, ready to take advantage of the storm’s commotion to assault the island and terrorize its inhabitants. To this effect, there are a lot of unique weapons and vehicles on the Island provided by the allies which players can use to take on these monsters and protect their comrades.
The New Currency And Circe’s Circlet Take The Cake
To complement these gameplay additions, Blizzard has also introduced the Flame Blessed Iron as Siren Isle’s new currency. Players can earn Flame Blessed Iron by completing tasks on the island, which can then be spent on items like gear, mounts, and pets exclusive to The War Within DLC. There are also caves with powerful enemies inside, each belonging to the three major groups on the island, and players can donate Flame Blessed Iron to their excavation and kickstart their special events.
Cyrce’s Circlet is also a source of interest emanating from the Siren Isle, an item that belonged to an ancient and powerful Siren. The ring can come in handy when traversing the Isle’s treacherous corners, channeling the power of special gems through three embedded sockets. Players can unlock more gems through exploration and discover more of its abilities. Cyrce’s Circlet can also be upgraded by spending some of the Siren Isle’s new currency, with this addition being the highlight of a standout play space.
