Honolulu Community College fashion show features rising local designers
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -The Honolulu Community College Fashion Technology Program is hosting its annual fashion show called “Next in Line” next Saturday, May 4, featuring the work of six rising senior designers.
Elsie Casamina-Fernandez, Fashion Tech Department Chair, and Reise Kochi, Fashion Production Lead, joined us on HNN’s Sunrise Weekends to discuss supporting local talent and why people should consider a career in fashion.
The Fashion Technology program was created in the 1920s when Honolulu Community College was known as the Territorial Trade School. In the mid 50s, the school became part of the university program and annual fashion shows were held to showcase the student’s work.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the program shifted towards creating digital content and exploring innovative avenues to present students’ work. This year is the first in-person show since 2020.
Aimee Beams, Miranda Chang, Stacy Sison, and Matthew Miller with model Johann Ordonez also joined Sunrise to showcase their looks.
The fashion show provides students with a real-world opportunity to present their work in a professional setting, allowing them to gain invaluable experience in the fashion industry.
The show takes place on Saturday, May 4th, at the Honolulu Community College Cafeteria (874 Dillingham Blvd). The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are sold out, but participants can watch online for free.
